Hackintosh GPU & Wi-Fi Patching Guide for Kepler GT 740 (macOS Monterey)

Tutorial: Patching NVIDIA Kepler GT 740 and Wi-Fi on macOS Monterey

To hackintosh an older PC (Ivy Bridge i5-3570S, GT 740 Kepler GPU) with macOS Monterey, you will need to re-enable legacy drivers using OpenCore Legacy Patcher. Here is how to safely patch your system:

1. Kepler Graphics Compatibility (GT 740)

Apple officially dropped Kepler GPU support in macOS Monterey. However, you can easily restore full metal graphics acceleration using OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP) or the Kepler Patcher. OCLP is highly recommended over Kepler Patcher because it handles kernel caching and system integrity settings automatically.

2. Step-by-Step GPU and Wi-Fi Patching:

  1. Configure OpenCore EFI: Ensure your config.plist has System Integrity Protection (SIP) set to 0x803 (or custom OCLP defaults) and SecureBootModel set to Disabled. This allows the patcher to load custom graphics kexts.
  2. Install macOS Monterey: Boot the installer and complete the OS setup. The display will initially lag and show 3MB or 7MB of VRAM because drivers aren't loaded yet.
  3. Run OCLP Root Patches:
    • Download the latest version of OpenCore Legacy Patcher.
    • Run the app, select Post-Install Root Patch.
    • The patcher will automatically detect your NVIDIA Kepler GPU and your legacy Wi-Fi card.
    • Click Start Root Patching, enter your administrator password, and let OCLP download and inject the drivers.
    • Reboot. Once finished, reboot your system. Your GT 740 will show 1536MB VRAM with full Metal acceleration, and your Wi-Fi will be fully functional.

Original Question: "What patch should I use?"

Hi, I want to hackintosh my old PC with a I5 3570S, 8gb ram DDR3 1666mhz, a GT 740 and a 128gb sata ssd, I want to put Monterey on it because it is the newest version compatible. I searched about the Kepler patcher but for my internet card the last version compatible was high sierra, but it could Monterey with oclp (oc simplify said it). I don’t know if using oclp and Kepler patcher would be safe (for gpu and for WiFi)
