Selecting SMBIOS for my desktop
Image
I have a desktop with Intel Core i3 6300 and Intel HD Graphics 530 (no dedicated GPU). I am stuck at choosing SMBIOS as most iMac use dedicated GPU only, no 21.5 inch (non 4K) iMac use Skylake. I was thinking of MacBook Pro but I read Dortania tutorial said MacBook SMBIOS should be selected for mobile CPU. Can anyone help me? submitted by /u/superquanganh [link] [comments] [► Source]
2 questions. Can I change the name of my drive when upgrading from Mojave? Where does one find a copy of Catalina?
Image
Hey everyone. So, I might have done a stupid thing when doing a fresh install and system rebuild a couple of years ago. Rather than name my drive "Macintosh HD", I formatted it as "Mojave" before I installed Mojave. I now want to do a simple upgrade to Catalina, and would love it if my drive was simply called "Macintosh HD" since I won't be on Mojave anymore. Would this mess up anything when it comes to software finding files, loading etc? Do I have to leave it called Mojave? Also, where does one find a copy of Catalina to use to upgrade? I want to be sure I'm using one that is problem free and rule that out immediately if things go odd. Thanks all! submitted by /u/FrequencyJones [link] [comments] [► Source]

Opencore slow boot time on MSI laptop

Bluetooth not working in Catalina/Big Sur + Computer Freezing up
Image
Hey guys, So i used to have a completely working build on my system which was running Sierra and was working without any issues. However due to my Nvidia graphics card, I couldn't upgrade so I removed it and upgraded it, which broke the system since it was running Clover and upgraded directly from Sierra to Catalina. So i decided to restart from scratch and go the OpenCore route. I started off with Catalina and noticed quite a few issue where frames were dropped and mouse would stutter and the whole system would lag. I upgraded to Big Sur and it got better, but also been playing around with different kexts. Currently, my K380 keyboard connects to the pc but all of a sudden just stops working and the key input delay is massive before it just stops. Screen freezing up, and dropped frames I would say where moving the mouse from left to right, it's moving smoothly and then just freezes for a second or two and then jumps. So my build specs are: Motherboard: Z170P-D3 CPU: Int...

Green screen then no display output
Image
Issue When attempting to install Catalina I'll see some kernelspace stuff running for a bit, then a green screen, then no output to the display. Someone said it might just need some time but I've let it run for ~30 minutes with no luck. Here's the log file . Hardware and config.plist Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2 GHz Quad-Core Processor Asus STRIX Z270H ATX LGA1151 Motherboard G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory Inland Premium 512 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive Asus GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB KO Gaming OC Video Card (intend on using the iGPU but listing here for completeness) And the following config.plist . I've already validated this using the opencore sanity checker ( results here ) I would literally buy you a beer (or soda?) if you can help me with this. It's driving me insane. submitted by /u/Hezooweemamadforyou [link] [comments] [► Source]

(High Sierra) USB audio interface won't play audio
Image
Hi! This is my first Hackintosh. I'm currently running into an issue right now in macOS High Sierra. Everything else is running smoothly, but the only problem is that the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen audio interface works perfectly fine in Windows 10, but boot up macOS and it refuses to play audio. It's detected by the OS. It's not just muted, though--it's like the audio is completely locked up. If I go on YouTube and try to play a video, the video simply won't play until I change output devices, and it'll throw the error: "If playback doesn't begin shortly, try restarting your device." I haven't gotten to testing the input yet, but I suspect that it's the same. I can't figure out what's wrong for the life of me. I've switched USB ports, looked for drivers (it should just be plug-and-play), changed the kHz format (doesn't work on any), uninstalled Focusrite Control, deleted my audio configuration files, rebooted a bunch...
Upgrade from i7-8700 to i9-9900kf ? Worth it?

I gain a couple of extra cores - 4 threads, and a 400MHz bump to base frequency and max-turbo speed... do you think this would be worthwhile on a lowly Gigabyte H370 HD3 motherboard? PS. Using RX 580 Sapphire Pulse 8GB graphics, and iMacPro1,1 SMBIOS - I never use Intel Graphics for any reason (It is actually disabled in BIOS). submitted by /u/themacmeister [link] [comments] [► Source]

Testing a new version of OpenCore from USB?
Image
I realised recently that I am still using OpenCore 0.6.1 on my Coffee Lake desktop. I want to update to 0.6.6 but cannot afford to damage my NVRAM or existing 0.6.1 install until I know that the new config works (for both macOS and Win10 booting). If I test from USB OC 0.6.6 (config based on my existing 0.6.1 config.plist), do you foresee any possibility of it borking my NVRAM/UEFI boot? submitted by /u/themacmeister [link] [comments] [► Source]

Fenvi T919 - WiFi and Bluetooth range/speed fix
Image
Just thought I'd share my experience having purchased the infamous T919 recently. As many before me, I experienced really bad interference with Bluetooth and horrible range (1-2 meters at best). WiFi was OK but not great. I ordered two of these bad boys https://amzn.to/3utZo9o and replaced the stock antennas. Have installed them on my desk. https://preview.redd.it/en1fiik4dnj61.png?width=758&format=png&auto=webp&s=a4d8f02da7093f339431cfb34e2a4ba30a0d864a Suddenly there's 15 more WiFi networks available, RSSI for my home WiFi is full bars, and there's Bluetooth coverage in nearly every spot in my apartment. Honestly a game changer. Didn't think it would work initially, but here we are. Recommend it if you are having similar issues! submitted by /u/iBifteki [link] [comments] [► Source]

I'm still getting OCB: LoadImage failed - unsupported

Hi, I'm trying to install Big Sur using OpenCore 0.6.6 on Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H. I had Clover-based Mojave running on it until yesterday when the OS somehow died. I followed the OpenCore guide, made a bootable USB stick, config.plist looks valid according to slowgeek but when I tried to run the installation, I get the above error, "OCB: LoadImage failed - unsupported". Open Core Installer Missing Option
Image
I followed the opencore project guide that Chris Titus Tech made, which uses the official guide and made my usb. At first, I didn't make it to the installer screen, so I installed the debug version to see why, apparently it was getting stuck on watchdog status 1. So I looked it up and switched out the HfsPlus.efi for the Legacy one and changed nvram write flash to false, in the config.plist file. After I did that I was able to make it to the installer, however in the installer I see. OpenCore (external) Windows OpenShell.efi And fourth option to quit or something. The windows I know is the windows that is currentely on the computer, but I am supposed to see and 'OpenCore (external) dmg options, or maOS installer, something along those lines. I recheked all my files, and they are where there supposed to be. Com.apple.recovery.boot, contains my Base system dmg, and the chunklist, and the efi folder is in the root of the USB. submitted by /u/Tedium_16 [link] [...

Hello, I've been trying to build my Hackintosh, but ran into one problem. After getting to install menu it says "The recovery server could not be contacted". I've tried using Realtek kext 2.2.2., because I heard that it's the most successful to work. After going to Network Utility the Status changes to Active and Inactive after two seconds and loops (for 2 seconds it's active, for another 2 seconds it's not active). I don't know what to do, I've tried many things like changing the date or getting different kext.
