Fresh install, 10.12.6 software update woes

So I just did a clean install of Sierra this afternoon and successfully installed the OS to my SSD. I ran Multibeast after installation but decided to double-dip and run the 10.12.6 software update before testing to see if the drive was bootable.

Upon restart and boot, the screen goes black while trying to select bootable device/bios settings only with that drive hooked up. If I disconnect it or put in my Mountain Lion/El Cap boot drives, it'll boot through desktop and let me select bootable device and see bios. I'm baffled why the presence of the Sierra SSD prevents any visuals after the bios beep. Should I wipe the drive and install again, test Multibeast bootloader before attempting a system update? (I did the system update because I wanted to install the Nvidia Web Drivers) Any thoughts?
