To Hack Or Not To Hack

Hey fellas, I'm a music producer/engineer with a 2017 MacBook bro. The SOLE reason I bought the machine in the first place was Logic Pro X. 5 years later, projects have grown bigger and I have started to experience constant stutters, Boeing-grade fan noise and overall slowness. At the time of purchase, I was furious at how price inefficient the machine was and would gladly build a hack but the situation has changed with the introduction of Apple Silicon

After searching the used market I've discovered that a 10900k or 13700k system would set me back by 700-1000usd (Lots of options) This would include 64gb ram, aforementioned CPUs and a filler GPU as I don't need it for my work.

A macbook or a Mac mini with the same amount of ram and storage go for 2000$. I understand that this is a limited scope comparison.

So, is it worth it to go Hackintosh route right now? I love building PC's (built like 10 rigs for friends) and would love the challenge, but I don't know how comparable a system like this would be to a real Mac. The customizable storage, ram, gpu, dual boot with windows sound really good. I just to be sure that the Mac part of the system holds up.

I've been to a lot of music studios, and a big chunk of them ran hacks for 10+ years. I personally have not upgraded from Mojave and logic 10.5 up until 2023, when I have encountered the first software incompatabilty. Another reason why I am hesitant of switching to M2 right now is because a lot of my plugins are third party, and a lot of them are not native, that would mean loss of tools and possibly projects.

Appreciate all and every piece of advice, thanks!

TLDR: Audio Production, Macbook 2017 starting to struggle. Build a Hack or buy M2?
