Easier to start from scratch or convert/upgrade guts from 2006 Macbook Pro?
Image
My wife has a 2006 Macbook Pro that is on it's last legs. I've been looking into to hackintoshes for a while and I was curious if it was possible and/or beneficial to reuse the guts of the macbook pro in a new enclosure. I just want a desktop for everyday use, web browsing, word docs, music, etc. Thanks! submitted by /u/indianguy13 [link] [comments] [► Source]

Apple has accidentally leaked the design of the new iPhone 8 in firmware for the upcoming HomePod smart speaker. Since the HomePod's firmware went live, developers Steve Troughton-Smith and Guilherme Rambo have been busy examining the software for items of interest. While some new details about the HomePod have been revealed, today's discoveries are about Apple's next generation iPhone. Troughton-Smith found references which confirm that the new iPhone will have a facial recognition feature. Can I make a macOS Sierra live USB?
Image
I have an ASUS K501UW-AB78 laptop. I don't want to use the internal SSD to dual boot macOS and Windows. I would like to have a USB flash drive that I can boot to that has macOS on it. Is there a way I can go about this? submitted by /u/iancbogue [link] [comments] [► Source]
Cannot delete/modify/replace System supplied Screen Saver?!?!?
Image
I did this with an older build of Sierra, now under 10.12.5 (and .6?) I am unable to delete/modify/replace, even from root terminal :-( I would love to do this, as my Arabesque screensaver is borked, and runs at about 1 fps. Anyone have any ideas? Do Hackintoshs' support airdrop?

Greetings everyone! I've been on the fence about getting an iMac but decided to look at better options (i.e. building a hackintosh). I do a lot of editing and love the connectivity of a regular imac and my iphone, but I'm just curious if I would have the same connectivity between a hackintosh and my iphone submitted by /u/Wisex [link] [comments] [► Source]
Apple is 'Committed' to Helping LG Produce OLED iPhone Displays [Report]
Image
Apple is 'committed' to helping LG product OLED iPhone displays so that it is not solely reliant on Samsung for the important component, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In a new research note the analyst says, OLED display has been the "single most troublesome component for Apple in terms of bargaining power." We think Apple is therefore committed to having LGD geared up for its OLED iPhone display business in 2018 as it seeks to reduce supply risks. Even though LGD may likely start off with minimal initial penetration in 2018 (we estimate no more than 4-6%), the effort, with the full commitment of both Apple and LGD, will help LGD mature during the process and steadily gain supply share from 2019 onward. This will in turn continuously boost Apple’s bargaining power on OLED prices. Share Article: Facebook ,    Twitter ,    LinkedIn ,    Google Plus ,    Email ,    Reddit ,    Digg ,    Delicious , ...

Moving from Macbook to PC
Image
I am building a Gaming PC so will need to go Windows, but I am selling my MacBook to fund the build, i much prefer Mac OS for browsing and creative work so would like to install OSX as well. My Question is if i take the Internal HDD and put it into my PC is there any way of allowing the PC to recognise the drive and be able to run the operating system with all the files already on it? (Maybe in Virtualbox?) Also I would like to have Ryzen 1700 in my build if this makes any difference to the process, i've heard it is more difficult with AMD cpus. Sierra image to download?
Image
Hi guys! I've wanted to tune in to Hackintosh scene myself but I'm stuck at downloading Sierra image from appstore. The problem is, I can't really download it(download size is way too much for my bandwidth). Is there any other source I can download sierra from?(I know it might be little bit against rules but anything is appreciated) If it can be downloaded through linux I'm saved. I can ask my friend to download any file and save it on my pendrive but I can't ask him to provide sierra for me as he doesn't have mac/hackintosh and computer I'm running is a desktop. Thanks for your time ;) submitted by /u/Minto107 [link] [comments] [► Source]

Most painless Thunderbolt build for music production?
Image
I'm on a 5 year old hackintosh right now which still performs pretty well but I want thunderbolt to get the most out of some new audio interfaces. I did some searching and have seen some builds using the Gigabyte - GA-Z170X-Designare motherboard. Searching around it still seems like kind of a pain to get up and running. Are there any better or other thunderbolt motherboards to use right now? It's also kind of expensive at $260. And looks like you need to install win10 to "activate" thunderbolt. This is my current build idea, I already have a case and psu I can reuse: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Y3X9m8 these are some build threads im referencing here and here I do see another gigabyte thunderboard motherboard, but not sure if anyone has had success with it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H74VKKK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=AZCEI3EMXUPTH&psc=1 The NVMe drives seem kind of annoying to get working, is it worth it? My other alternative is to just find a used ma...

Clover keeps creating duplicated boot entries, but I only have one EFI partition
Image
I have this somewhat common problem where every time I boot into OSX it creates an additional entry on the list of bootable devices on my UEFI. This is described here: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-remove-extra-clover-bios-boot-entries-prevent-further-problems.175274/page-34 I can remove those entries with bcfg boot rm xx until only the good one remains, but the problem keeps appearing. Every solution listed is something like "make sure there is only one disk that has an EFI partition that contains the Clover boot loader". I think this is already the case in my system, because I just formated the SSD with a single partition and made a fresh install. There's no USB plugged and the SSD only has the boot volume and the recovery partition. Maybe that recovery partition is the problem? Also, I have already set the boot options for all devices to UEFI Only on my mobo. Specs: Gigabyte GA-H170N-WIFI Intel i3 6100 Integrated graphics card (Intel HD Graphics 530) Only on...

SMBIOS modification in legit Macs
Image
I'm in the process of planning to purchase a MacBook Air in the next few months after four years of happy hackintoshing. But that being said, I'm curious about the SMBIOS is stored in a real Mac. Evidently it's a part of bios but is this on a secure part of the logic boards firmware? For long term usage is there any known way to modify the SMBIOS through flashing another SMBIOS such as the ones we utilize in our hacks? In the event that Apple drops support for a Mac, they obviously won't be supporting system and by that stage the warranty will be void. submitted by /u/wantsyourmoney [link] [comments] [► Source]
iPhones, iPads, iPods not connecting to iTunes
Image
My now otherwise perfect hackintosh (Gigabyte z97n, GTX 750Ti, 8GB Hyperx RAM, Bitfenix Pridogy, i5-4960k) works brilliantly, aside from my iPod and iPad not syncing through iTunes. When I originally set the machine up, I restored from Time Machine, so that all my settings from my old Macbook Pro (Including iTunes library) would be saved. Unfortunately, idevices do not connect, and I don't use iTunes for music on the computer, so it is sort of useless for talking to my devices. On top of this, all other USB devices work fine, however idevices don't even show up under the 'System Information' app, no matter whether I use a USB2.0 or 3.0 port. They do, however, draw power, and charge fine. Has anyone experienced similar issues and can help to fix it? submitted by /u/Doofitator [link] [comments] [► Source]

Tips for getting started with a Post Hackintosh?
Image
With the help of the people at AMD OSX, I was able to get my pc to dual boot into Mac OSX Sierra on a Ryzen CPU. At this point, the booting of Sierra is stable. However, I'm having some performance issues I was hoping I could get some help with. My current specs are (Keep in mind this is a dual-boot. I never intended for it to be solely hackintosh); Motherboard: GA-AB350-Gaming 3 CPU: AMD Ryzen 1700x GPU: STRIX GTX 1070 I have 1 SSD for Windows, and 1 SSD for mac. They are both separate and have nothing else on them except the OS and programs, etc... So, here are the problems I was hoping to get assistance with; Question 1: Currently using clover bootloader and want to use it as my default bootloader. When starting the PC, Clover lists all partitions except my Windows one. It lists; macOS System Reserved My 2TB drive for storage A partition that I can select but has a blank name. The only partition that works on selection is macOS, the rest just sit at a black screen with a blinkin...
