Is OCLP really safe?

Yeah, I know I'm not the first one to ask this question, but I just used OpenCore Legacy Patcher on my MBP 2012 to install Monterey. It seems to work fine but I'm scared that OCLP may somehow make my mac more vulnerable than with Catalina. So my main question is : did some people really look at the code of OCLP, and can they confirm it's really safe? Or should I go back to Catalina?
