Useful Info for Z97/H97 users running R9 290/390 (non-X)

I just thought I would make a small post about the last couple years I have spent with macOS on my system.

My Specs:

Intel Core i5 4570

MSI Z97S Krait Edition

12GB RAM

PowerColor PCS+ R9 390 (8GB)

Basically, I thought I'd tell you all about getting QE/CI Working reliably on these parts, which versions of macOS booted, worked, etc.

Mavericks 10.9

  • Installer eventually booted fine, UniBeast method using Chameleon.
  • HD4600 QE/CI works using RehabMan's fixes
  • R9 390, barely worked, QE/CI only through Chameleon patches, no Clover support from what I tested, which was inconvenient for me due to having Windows also installed using UEFI/GPT on another drive.

El Capitan 10.11.6

  • Installer booted 1st time, default UniBeast method using Clover.
  • HD4600 works, but QE/CI breaks with R9 390 active.
  • R9 390 FULLY WORKING MULTI MONITOR support using Clover UEFI with FBName=Radeon, InjectATI=Yes and FakeID=0x67B01002.

Sierra 10.12

High Sierra 10.13

  • Installer refused to boot, even with Sierra/ElCap kexts and bugfixes.
  • No status as of yet.

What would I recommend for new Z97 hackintoshers?

El Capitan (specifically, version 10.11.6.)

It just works.
