Migrate OS to another HDD?

I've got Sierra running on a 128GB HDD at the moment, but my laptop has a 1TB and I want to swap them.

Could I migrate the Mac OS onto the 1TB HDD?

Just wondering if this is possible, how risky it is, and would it be easier to just re install the OS on the new HDD?
