why is kernel_task taking up 30GB of my RAM?

Pretty much what is says in the title. Looks like most of this is wired memory so it'll not get returned to the system. In fact it never gets garbage collected even though i close all other apps. If i leave it overnight, the computer will beach ball the very next morning and i can SLOOOOWWWLY sign in and see that memory pressure has gone in to the red while beach ball goes on and i'll have to do a hard shut down. Installed using the hackintosher guide. Z370 8700k, XMP Profile 1. memtest doesn't show anything wrong with my RAM. kextstat isn't very enlightening either. just normal. Screens and link to EFI attached.

kextstat | awk 'NR==1{ printf "%10s %s\n", $5, $6; } NR!=1{ printf "%10d %s\n", $5, $6; }' | sort -n
