Like probably a lot of people, I rely heavily upon and leverage the expertise of many much smarter people then myself who put in the time and effort to test hackintosh setups, write tools, and create guides and pathways for the laypeople like myself to use and build their very own hackintosh.
Like many, my journey started with Google and I assume that also like many, the Tonymacx86 forums featured prominently in the results. There were some other websites which I also utilised to synthesise as much knowledge as I could to build my rig, however Tonymacx86 seemed particularly helpful because of detailed guides to a number of very specific hardware configurations meaning I could read a guide for basically my exact machine. They also have a responsive and helpful community in the boards and also, were the only place I was aware of offering actual software tools many of which seemed to be a necessity.
That's all I actually know about them so I'm really out of the loop on exactly what the source of this obscure conflict is. As far as I can tell it only seems to be here on Reddit but I can't quite figure out who these people are or what alternative they're representing. The way they level their criticism seems to imply they favour some better alternative but I've never had anyone actually tell me who or where to go to instead. Also, those criticising them always seem to do so off-handedly or obliquely so I've never been able to get a straight answer what's actually wrong with Tonymacx86, one person I questioned on this got extremely defensive and flat out refused to tell me what the problem was exactly.
If there's something in it, I'd love to hear it so I can avoid making bad decisions but unless anyone wants to actually point to something concrete then as far as I can tell Tonymacx86 is just a website with helpful resources and essential tools and it's hard to grasp what exactly is wrong with that.
