ERROR allocating 0x119b3 pages at 0x.... alloc type 2 after Ubuntu install on different disk

My hackintosh has been fine for a while, and I've not changed anything on macOS.

I installed a couple of SSDs (Samsung 850, and some random brand), connected as SATA devices. Just had NVMe up til now.

Ubuntu installed fine on the random brand SSD - it boots happily. I had the Ubuntu installer put the bootloader onto that SSD.

Windows still boots fine from its own NVMe drive.

Clover starts as before - it's the bootloader on the default NVMe drive holding macOS. Nothing changed on it. Clover finds all three OSs. Ubuntu and Windows boot fine from clover.

macOS boots up to the user login screen before FileVault kicks in, then I get a black screen with the disabled logo.

Turning on -v in clover I get the following -

ERROR allocating 0x119b3 pages at 0x.... alloc type 2

I've checked by BIOS and rolled back to a saved good profile (despite not touching anything anyway), but doesn't help.

It's not clear what would have changed here. The macOS drive wasn't touched. Clover wasn't touched.

I've unplugged the two new drives, and still borked.

How can I rescue it?

My hardware is nearly identical too, full parts list is here: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/alexwasserman/saved/#view=QYh7TW

Summary:

And the FileVault steps from here:

I copied and pasted in my existing RT Variables, and SMBios from my existing working Clover config into the EFI from the first link to keep that working, then put in the 2 drivers per the second link.

Catalina has been fine an stable for a week (and happily booting to Windows on occasion too. Mojave was fine for months before that.
