Problems connecting iPhone to virtual machine

I have created a macOS vm on both VMware and virtualbox. It is the same macOS file used for each. When I connect my iPhone in the virtualbox, it works fine but doesn’t show up in iTunes, photos, etc. It shows up in hardware list but cannot be accessed. In VMware however, connecting my iPhone immediately freezes the vm. I cannot move my mouse inside the vm but it works fine outside and nothing inside the vm loads/updates when it freezes. I’ve tried uninstalling and I’ve tried version 12 and 15.0.1. When using the tool to unlock VMware to use a macOS vm, 2 files aren’t found. I think the first is something like VMware-vmx-stats and the other is darwin asterisk dot asterisk(can’t use the asterisks because of reddit markup). Any help would be appreciated for either vm. Host machine is windows 10 laptop with 8gb memory and an intel i3 6006u.
