I want some opinions about hackintosh project I want to do but it revolves around drones with a laptop that can dual boot windows and mac.

Hello again everyone,

(TDLR is at the bottom)

I know this community isnt too fond of hackintoshing laptops but please hear me out before you make a judgement.

This year I want to get back into focus with my drone hobby. I have a phantom 2 vision, phantom 3 standard, xiro xplorer V, and a custom hexa rotor with a DJI NASA V2 flight controller with a DJI DT7 transmitter. The drones as a whole doesnt matter same with specifically the phantom 3 (only data transfer is important with this one).

The drones themselves have some odd quirks that make them a little pain to use when I take them out to fly. Mainly calibration with their sensors and transmitters. The drones use PC software to manage the entire system minus the phantom 3 since that can be done all on the DJI go app. What makes this a little annoying is something's work in macOS while some things work in windows.

A good example is my hexarotor. I can manage the flight controller itself from windows but it doesnt communicate properly in mac os and wont send sensor data or write firmware to the IMU. However the transmitter wont calibrate in windows but will be fully functional in MacOS. I've deduced this to shitty app programming on DJIs side as I'm not the only one who has this issue.

My Xiro Xplorer only allows me to calibrate in MacOS but to retrieve the data off the drone directly like a DVR if I need to that only works in windows. Not very often I need to use that feature but it's nice when I can use it.

A side note too is I have also used RemixOS an android desktop platform to pilot my drones with the laptop itself with great success but here is my main question I wanted to see what the community would think the best route to go is.

What method do you think would be worth doing?

I already have a 2009 15" macbook pro triple booted with MacOS, windows 7, and remixOS. It was a pain in the ass to get that set up but it works and is stable but as DJI pushes new drivers for their parts, support for windows 7 is dropping slowly. I need both operating systems and DJIs software works alot better on a windows 10 machine and a newer mac. Remix will always be a fast os since it doesn't really have anything about it to slow it down since it's just android.

What I think would be an ideal route was get a lenovo machine and install macOS onto it. I've tested this with my lenovoX220 tablet and it seems to be a pretty good option but I was looking for a laptop that is at least 15" for a decent view size from the drones video feed when flying. I'd prefer lenovo machines because they are rugged and I dont care if it gets dirty it will also be used to program race quads too.

Either way this will take awhile it's not so much the whole dual booting windows and mac that's not so bad its remixOS. I have to manaully make the partition, manually set it up, and use a linux live cd to make a custom data image so theres room for apps so theres alot of work to be done anyways witch I'm perfectly fine with.

I think i could benefit greatly from a newer machine all around that's faster than my old macbook pro. I just wanted to see what sounds like a better option and see what others have had success with hackintoshed laptops.

I forgot to mention wifi and bluetooth are 100% necessary. I dont care if I gotta get another replacement card for the machine to have those features but a good wireless card recommendation would be appreciated as its gotta have pretty good data transfer rates to minimize latency between the drones video feed to my computer. The transmitters act as the Access point but the better the wifi card the quicker the video feed is.

I apologize in advance if this post violates any rules as I'm genuinely curious what people think about my idea.

TDLR: should I get a newer macbook pro to triple boot Windows 10, MacOS, and RemixOS (android desktop OS) or would it be a good idea to find a lenovo laptop that's hackintosh-able and triple boot it with those three operating systems for my drone management software and pilot software?
