Seeing that the new(er) MacBook Pro models have finger print readers and Linux has support for some models would it be possible to get a nonapple reader to work?

My thinkpad t480 has a finger print reader and Linux has a library called python validity which makes it usable. Would it be theoretically possible to use that same script + library to work under macOS?
