Is the jump from Sierra to Big Sur even possible? Or is an earlier OS a better bet? The guides on tonymac are helpful but it wasn't clear if this big of a jump is supported, and if old hardware would still be compatible.
Another reason I was dubious was because one of the first steps is to download the most recent OS from the app store, but my app store does not return any mac OS's for download. Makes it look like I missed the opportunity to upgrade easily when I had it.
I'm willing to upgrade some parts too (particularly the GPU), but if I have to rebuild the whole thing to upgrade the OS or use some better parts, I'll probably stick with what I have. Just looking for opinions before I spend too much time digging into a dead end.
