Guide:
If you're encountering the "OpenCore LoadImage failed - Volume Corrupt" error while attempting to install older versions of OS X (Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard) on a legacy PC using OpenCore 0.9.8, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Verify USB Creation Process:
- Ensure that the USB installer for each OS X version was created correctly using ASR (Apple Software Restore) as per the guide's instructions.
- Double-check that the USB drive is formatted with GUID Partition Map and macOS Extended (Journaled) file system.
Check Config.plist Settings:
- Review your config.plist file and ensure that it is configured correctly for booting older versions of OS X.
- Verify that the necessary boot arguments and settings, such as KernelPm, LegacyBios, and USBInjectAll, are correctly set according to your hardware specifications.
Verify Compatibility:
- Confirm that your legacy PC hardware (Core 2 Quad Q9400, 8GB DDR3, ATi HD2600XT, Gigabyte GA-G41MT-ES2L) is compatible with the selected versions of OS X (Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard).
- Check for any specific hardware compatibility issues or required kernel patches for your hardware configuration.
Update OpenCore:
- Consider updating OpenCore to the latest stable release (if available) to ensure compatibility with your legacy PC hardware and older OS X versions.
- Download the latest version of OpenCore from the official GitHub repository and follow the installation instructions to update your boot loader.
Troubleshoot Clover Error:
- If you encountered an "X64 EXCEPTION ERROR" with Clover, it may indicate a compatibility issue or misconfiguration with your hardware.
- Double-check your Clover configuration and ensure that the settings are appropriate for booting older OS X versions on your legacy PC.
Check BIOS Settings:
- Review your BIOS settings and ensure that they are correctly configured for compatibility with Hackintosh setups.
- Check for options related to Secure Boot, VT-x/AMD-V, SATA mode (AHCI), and other relevant settings, and adjust them as necessary.
Try Alternate Bootloader:
- If troubleshooting with OpenCore and Clover does not resolve the issue, consider trying an alternate bootloader such as Chameleon or Enoch/Chimera to boot older OS X versions on your legacy PC.
Seek Additional Support:
- If you continue to experience issues, seek assistance from online forums and communities dedicated to Hackintosh and macOS installation on legacy hardware.
- Provide detailed information about your hardware configuration and the steps you've taken so far to receive targeted help and troubleshooting advice.
By following these steps and troubleshooting methods, you can address the "OpenCore LoadImage failed - Volume Corrupt" error and successfully install older versions of OS X on your legacy PC.
Hi, I'm trying to install several older versions of OS X on a legacy PC but I haven't managed to get any installers to actually load. I'm using OpenCore 0.9.8 release, and have attempted to boot Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard, all using the Dortania supplied images with the same result of OCB Load Image Failed - Volume Corrupt.
I used ASR to restore the installer to the USB as the guide suggests but I am pretty helpless now. I also tried Clover but was unable to get past an X64 EXCEPTION ERROR in all red.
Thanks.
