Is SIP enabled on unsupported hardware theoretically possible? How does macos identify what systems to deny updates?

This is more of a thought experiment at the moment. I'm just curious as to how macos identifies models.

Let's say somehow you could swap out hardware form a standard mac, at whst point does it refuse to boot or update to Sonoma?
