I have a Late 2009 27 inch 2.66GHz i5 4 cores with 8 gig and HD4850 512 MB card on a 1TB SSD that is running the first released version of Sonoma, but its a bit a little buggy, possibly due to the fact I have a Non Metal card, I want to try and update the machine further.
Can any 1 suggest where I could get a Metal graphic card that would fit, im in europe, but can easily buy from sites like ali express and the like. I will need more ram, what would be max you think 32 gigs?? thats easier to source, once i know how many gigs will work.
It has some issues, like the Hard drive fan is broken and allthough I have an SSD there now, it gets hot, current fix is running the other fans at high speed with an macfan software, but if any1 knows if this fan is some what easily replaceable and where to get it, a comment would be much appreciated.
One would think spending money on a 2009 is a bit "out there", but I will never pay the premium apple demands for their products again, so if I can get this old girl to work with sonoma 14.4.1 after getting ram and a metal card, it will do just fine. From 2007 to 2019 I used only apple products, but then I built my own pcs from there on, still like the apple OS and when epic software devs like the ones at OCLP make them work on older by Apple "discontinued" machines, I can see myself using the 2009 again.
