Can I downgrade macOS Monterey to big Sur directly or do I need to go to an official apple supported version first?

I have Monterey installed on a mid 2009 MacBook pro and it's so slow could I downgrade to big Sur or do I need to go to an official apple supported mac version before installing big sur?
