Hello everyone,
I’m running macOS Sequoia via OpenCore Legacy Patcher on an older Mac, and unfortunately I’m bumping into the same known DRM limitation: Safari can’t play Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+, etc. I consistently get errors like S7706 or endless buffering on DRM-protected streams
Most threads basically say “use Chrome or Firefox”—which I have been doing—but I’m curious if there's any work in progress to bring FairPlay DRM support back to Safari on patched Sequoia installs. It looks like the docs mention it's unsupported with non-native GPUs or patched installs .
So my questions are:
- Is the project exploring any new approach (e.g., making Apple’s hardware/software DRM work with patched systems, or leveraging software-based DRM) to restore Safari streaming compatibility?
- Has anyone had success with specific SMBIOS +
shikigva=XX+unfairgvacombinations that enable Safari DRM on Sequoia? - Or is the stance still “DRM in Safari will never work, only workarounds are Chrome/Firefox”?
Big thanks to the maintainers & community for all the work—just hoping Safari streaming isn’t permanently off the table. 🙏
