MacBook Pro 13 Mid 2012, Ventura or Sonoma ? With an upgrade to SSD and RAM 16GB

Hello all,

I am mostly a Windows user, so not really used to MacOS, so pardon me if my question is obvious or something.

MacBook Pro 13 mid 2012
Intel i5 2.5Ghz (2 cores)
Intel HD Graphics 4000
Now running El Capitan with 4gb and the stock 500gb HD.
The owner complains that a lot of websites and apps are not functionning anymore.
The end of support of El Capitan was October 2019.. 😳
I plan to install a 2x8GB kit and a 1To SSD that I already have.

Usage of the owner : Browsing (Firefox or Chrome), Pages & Numbers, basic stuff

I read that most people advise to install Ventura (better performance? less heat?) on this model which I am OK with. But I've seen the end of support is September 2025. Apps like Firefox and Chrome should work a long time after that?
(meaning opening modern websites)

Or should I directly install Sonoma instead ? End of support is end 2026.
Some people reported that it was OK but some people also reports that it's slow and heating. I am a bit lost.
I would like the person to be ok with a certain amount of time, at least with browsers.

Thanks for your advices 👍👍
