Problem: High Sierra (and previously Sierra) gives me a black screen when I try to boot with a DisplayPort cable. The exact behavior is that the display works for clover and at the start of the macOS boot, but halfway through the progress bar the screen flickers and turns black.
Using a DVI cable, everything works perfectly.
However, I need to use a DisplayPort cable for 10bit color on Windows. I can't seem to get 10bit color to work on macOS, but that is another issue entirely.
My Hardware:
Dell U3011 - the main display
Dell 2007FP - secondary display
EVGA 980ti Classified (non-standard 980ti PCB, but I don't think that matters)
First off, this is not a question about dual displays. I only use two monitors so that I can log on before hot-plugging my main monitor. If I can find a solution that works without the second monitor that would be my preferred solution.
My Current Workaround (somewhat annoying)
Disconnect the DisplayPort cable from the GPU.
Power on the computer.
Boot High Sierra.
Log in. (Using the Dell 2007FP)
Reconnect the DisplayPort.
High Sierra detects the Dell U3011 and everything works.
I'm trying to find a solution that doesn't involve me having to hot-plug the display every time I boot macOS.
