Problems installing High Sierra on Gigabyte Z77-D3H with NVidia GTX 960

Hi All,

I've been a happy Yosemite Zone + Clover user for a couple of years, but decided to take the plunge and try upgrading to High Sierra. So, I backed everything up, downloaded the installer from the app store, and stupidly clicked 'Install' straight away... Big mistake. As soon as the machine did it's first reboot, when I selected OSX Installer from the Clover boot menu, I got the apple logo for about 10 seconds, then the machine rebooted. And repeat. And repeat.

So, since I backed it all up, I decided to create a new installer USB using the vanilla method suggested on this sub and do a clean install. I have an OSX VM on my laptop, so was able to create the USB with no problems. Installed Clover on the USB, and copied APFS.efi to the boot folder, and then copied some kexts to the 'Other' folder:

  • AppleALC.kext
  • AtherosL1cEthernet.kext
  • FakeSMC.kext
  • Lilu.kext
  • NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext
  • USBInjectAll.kext

Same problem. I get the Clover screen, and when I choose Install OSX, It goes to the white apple logo and then reboots after 5/10 seconds. I've tried looking at the verbose output but it goes so fast, It's hard to see. It doesn't seem to stop on a particular kext.

I've tried booting safe mode, tried different combinations of injecting/not injecting kexts via Clover. I'm really stuck - any help/advice is much appreciated, or, if I'm barking up the wrong tree and using a system that's completely incompatible with HS, then please say and I'll set my sights a little lower :)

My machine specs are:

  • Gigabyte Z77-D3H (NOT the z77X model)
  • i7 3770k
  • GTX960
  • 16GB Corsair 1600 RAM

Thanks everyone!
