BCM94360 Handoff doesn't work without patch

I've had a BCM94360 WiFi/Bluetooth card in my hackintosh for a few years now, but didn't realize when I bought it that you had to have an official Apple card for handoff to work out of the box. I'm having trouble finding the info I've found about this in the past, but I'm pretty sure the only difference is the product ID of the bluetooth chip (0x828B). Every time I update the system, I have to run Continuity Activation Tool to get those features to work again. Not a huge deal, but it's a bit annoying.

What I don't understand is why the alternative fixes for this problem don't work for me. There was a clover kext patch I found a while back that was supposed to do the same thing as CAT, but it didn't work, and tonight I discovered BT4LEContinuityFixup.kext and installed that when I updated and it didn't work for me either. What does CAT do that these patches don't do?
