Hi Everyone,
First off, my details:
- Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model (2018)
- Intel i7-8750U
- Intel UHD Graphics 630
As the title of the post suggests, I've just finished installing and setting up High Sierra on my new Razer Blade 15 pro, thanks to this awesome guide: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-razer-blade-15-2018-detailed-install-guide-high-sierra-10-13-6-17g2208-17g5019.26401
Everything is working perfectly and installing great, apart from MATLAB.
After installation, and upon activation, MATLAB throws an error:
Error 1,714: Unable to activate your machine. The activation process cannot detect a valid Host ID which utilizes a currently supported naming convention. Please refer to the following solution ID, to help resolve this issue: 1-661QJD
After some initial googling, it looked like that the fact that my usb wifi dongle had the wrong identifier (en1 instead of en0) might be culprit, so I changed that, but alas no luck. For reference, here's the output of "isconfig" on my current system:
lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384 options=1203<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,TXSTATUS,SW_TIMESTAMP> inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1 nd6 options=201<PERFORMNUD,DAD> gif0: flags=8010<POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST> mtu 1280 stf0: flags=0<> mtu 1280 XHC20: flags=0<> mtu 0 en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 ether c0:25:e9:1e:54:6f inet6 fe80::1475:dd6b:7e37:c924%en0 prefixlen 64 secured scopeid 0x5 inet 192.168.0.32 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.0.255 nd6 options=201<PERFORMNUD,DAD> media: autoselect status: active utun0: flags=8051<UP,POINTOPOINT,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 2000 inet6 fe80::8f:5b80:ceab:1244%utun0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x6 nd6 options=201<PERFORMNUD,DAD>
I've also tried creating a licence file online, using the MAC address of the en0 network adapter (MATLAB help says this is the Host ID for OSX devices), and trying to use that to activate. In this case, I get the error:
This license file appears to have been generated for a different computer. Either: - Go back and activate automatically using the Internet. - Or, if you do not have a license file for this computer, select the option indicating you do not have a license file. We will help you with the next steps.
which is equally unhelpful.
It seems a lot of the talk around this error is from a minimum of five years ago, so I'm starting to wonder what I could have done wrong. It seems plenty of users here use MATLAB within their Hackintosh systems, so if anyone has any insight into the MATLAB activation process, that would be invaluable.
