Does a compatible GPU take over the handling of GPU Hardware Acceleration?

Hi all.

I have an Optiplex 7010 (i7 3770 - HD4000) going spare that I'm thinking of turning into a hack. I know the HD4000 will have a crappy time with 4k decoding so I'm wondering if putting in a Mojave compatible AMD gpu will take care of that side of things?

I'm thinking along the lines of:

  • Usual OSX acceleration
  • Premiere Pro/FCPX rendering help
  • General 4k 8bit/10bit playback in VLC etc
  • 4k YouTube (though I believe YT uses VP9 which isn't hardware accelerated - anyone got experience with YT 4k on Ivy Bridge/Haswell?)

I also have a Skylake 6700k machine that I could use but I'm reluctant to use it as it was a PITA to get it running Sierra... (it also crapped out after an update so I've just run Windows since then lol).

Thanks :)
