Successfully Upgrading to macOS Sonoma on Alder Lake Systems

Absolutely! Here's a guide and some additional insights on upgrading to macOS Sonoma on your Alder Lake Hackintosh:

Compatibility:

  • Good News: Alder Lake (12th Gen Intel) is generally well-supported in macOS Sonoma. You shouldn't encounter major hurdles during the upgrade process.
  • Preparation is Key: As with any major macOS update, backing up your Hackintosh is crucial. Use Time Machine or a cloning tool to have a failsafe if needed.

Upgrade Process:

  1. Kexts and Drivers: Ensure you have the latest versions of the following kexts and drivers, as they are often updated for compatibility with newer macOS versions:
    • Lilu
    • WhateverGreen
    • AppleALC
    • IntelMausiEthernet
    • Itlwm/Heliport (for your Intel Wi-Fi 6E)
    • BlueToolFixup (for Intel Bluetooth)
  2. OpenCore Update: If you use OpenCore as your bootloader, upgrade to the latest stable version to benefit from potential bug fixes and compatibility improvements.
  3. Config.plist Review: Double-check your OpenCore config.plist for any Alder Lake-specific quirks, device properties, and SSDT patches you might have applied. Ensure that these are still accurate or updated if necessary.
  4. The macOS Installer: You have two primary options:
    • Recommended: The App Store: If you are currently on Monterey, the Sonoma installer should appear as an update in the App Store. This is generally the most streamlined path.
    • OpenCore Install Media: For more control over the process, create a bootable Sonoma USB installer using tools like OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OLP).

FaceTime and AirDrop:

  • FaceTime requires a meticulously crafted set of SMBIOS data, a generated valid serial number, and correct board ID and MLB settings. Seek specialized guides and tools for FaceTime on Hackintosh.
  • AirDrop generally works well with compatible WiFi/Bluetooth cards. If you're using Itlwm/Heliport, ensure continuity features are enabled correctly in your configuration.

Important Notes

  • Small Updates: macOS Sonoma might receive several smaller-point updates over time. These are often easier to apply and usually don't require significant changes to your setup.
  • Patience and Community: Updating a Hackintosh can sometimes require troubleshooting. Be patient, carefully read error messages, and rely on the helpful Hackintosh communities.

Can I upgrade to macOS Sonoma on Alder Lake Gen?
Can I upgrade to macOS Sonoma on Alder Lake Gen?

Hello everyone!
I recently finished my Monterey Hackintosh in 12th Intel Gen (Alder Lake), did the post-configuration and almost everything is working perfectly.

  • Things that are currently working:

- Audio
- Ethernet (2.5Gbps Intel I225-V)
- WiFi (Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX210 160mhz)
- Intel Bluetooth 5.3 (LMP 12)
- WebCam Intelbras 720P (camera and built-in microphone)
- RAM operating in 3200MHz

  • Things that are currently not working:
    - FaceTime (I thought it was because WiFi and Bluetooth weren't working, but after getting them to work, FaceTime still won't sign in to AppleID, I would appreciate it if anyone can help me with this part too).
    - I don't know if AirDrop is currently working or not, because I don't have any Apple device.

  • My hardware is as follows:
    - CPU: Intel Core i5-12400F
    - VGA: Radeon RX6600 8GB Gigabyte Eagle
    - MOBO: Asus Tuf Gaming Z690-Plus D4
    - RAM: Kingston Fury Renegade, 32GB (4X8GB), 3200MHZ, DDR4, CL16, KF432C16RBAK4/32

So, my question is whether I can upgrade to macOS Sonoma (from macOS Monterey), in this setup, without any major problems? It took a lot of work to get this setup polished like this, with everything working, and I wouldn't want to risk losing it.
If so, what is the best way to do it? I looked for specific tutorials for this generation and macOS versions, but I didn't find much that helped.
