Hackintosh RX 550 Troubleshooting Guide

Understanding the Problem:

The user is experiencing two primary issues with their Hackintosh build after successfully enabling hardware acceleration on their Lexa RX 550 graphics card:

  1. DVI Port Issue: MacOS detects a monitor connected to the DVI port but no image is displayed.

  2. AppleALC Audio Loss: The AppleALC audio kext (driver) injects properly but there are no recognized audio output devices.

Troubleshooting Steps:

1. DVI Port

  • Cable and Adapter: Check if you're using a high-quality DVI cable and any necessary adapters are functioning correctly. Try a different cable or adapter.
  • Monitor Compatibility: Double-check the compatibility of your monitor with DVI input. Review monitor specifications.
  • GPU BIOS: In some cases, updating the RX 550's BIOS might resolve connectivity issues. Proceed with caution as this process carries some risk.
  • Lilu and WhateverGreen Kexts: Ensure you have the latest versions of Lilu and WhateverGreen kexts installed and configured correctly. These are essential for graphics support in Hackintosh setups.

2. AppleALC Audio Loss

  • Layout ID: Experiment with different AppleALC layout IDs to find the most suitable one for your system's audio hardware. Tools like Hackintool can help.
  • Conflicting Kexts: A rarely occurring issue can be conflicts with other audio-related kexts. Temporarily remove or disable any other audio kexts and retry.
  • BIOS Settings: Explore your Hackintosh's BIOS settings for onboard audio configuration options. You might need to enable or set specific parameters for onboard audio.

Additional Tips:

  • Clean Configuration: Double-check your OpenCore or Clover configuration (config.plist). Any errors related to graphics or audio injection can cause these issues.
  • Community Resources: Consult Hackintosh forums and communities. Search for others with similar hardware who may have solutions. Often, specific device combinations require specific patches or workarounds.
  • Verbose Boot: Boot in verbose mode (-v flag) to monitor the boot process and see if any error messages appear related to graphics or audio.

Disclaimer: Modifying your computer system with a Hackintosh carries inherent risks. Proceed cautiously and always create backups of your data.

RX 550 problems

I have a Lexa RX 550 in my hackintosh and i have faked the device id so Mac OS enables hardware acceleration and it works fine except 2 things.

  1. When I connect my monitor to the DVI port, MacOS recognises the monitor and all its info but it doesn't get any signal
  2. The moment i fixed the gpu, AppleALC stopped working. It injects fine but MacOS doesn't show any output devices no matter what layout i use

If anyone knows or has had a similar experience, all help would be much appreciated! Thanks
