Hi everyone, hoping someone here can help.
I’m running OCLP on a mid-2014 MacBook Pro 15” Retina (Intel, Nvidia GT 750M). Everything was working fine until today.
I noticed an item called “rm” listed under System Settings → General → Login Items → Allow in the Background. I didn’t recognise it, so I disabled it and restarted.
Since then: black screen, no startup chime, no display output at all.
I’ve tried:
∙ Safe Mode (Shift on boot) — nothing ∙ NVRAM reset (Cmd+Opt+P+R) — nothing ∙ Single User Mode (Cmd+S) — nothing ∙ Verbose Mode (Cmd+V) — nothing ∙ Internet Recovery (Cmd+Opt+Shift+R) — nothing ∙ External monitor via HDMI — nothing ∙ SMC reset — nothing Note: Earlier today (before the restart) I also replaced the internal speakers and reapplied thermal paste. The machine was working perfectly after that reassembly — the problem only started after I disabled the “rm” item and rebooted. I’ve also rechecked all cables, display connector, RAM seating, thermal sensors, and screw placement.
My questions:
1. What exactly is the “rm” background process that OCLP registers? What does it do? 2. Could disabling it have caused the system to try to use the Nvidia dGPU (which may be failing), resulting in no POST? 3. Is there any way to re-enable it without a display? (e.g., boot from OCLP USB, terminal commands, etc.) 4. Has anyone else experienced this? Any help would be massively appreciated. Thanks.
