Quick question, more of a 1 off question in relation to another post I had on r/DataHoarder. Im looking at getting/building a true rack server prior to my leaving for college, I have about a year for this and I was curious if it was possible to...
A) Install OS X on E55xx Xeons with ECC RAM
and
B) if not, what CPU would be good for running between 1-3 OS X Virtual Machines. I would prefer that everything should work on them and it would be nice if I could do it for a decent price (I figure a Vega 64 and i7 but I am worried the i7 wouldn't be strong enough for multiple VMs running in parallel).
If this is unrealistic I would probably drop it. I wish I could get a TR, but I honestly am mainly looking for a golden build but the only other build I have seen for TR (by u/Captain_Cancer) has a few issues that I want to avoid if I only have remote access).
I figure right now I am probably looking at either a 7700k + Vega64 or a 8700k + Vega64. I would love a 19-9980XE but again this is a 1 off project and if hosting multiple VM's without an issue wouldn't quite work with 4c/8t or 6c/12t cpu then I would just drop it. Sorry if this is a bit confusing I am just kind of spitballing here.
If your curious VMs would be used for higher performance video editing, testing environments for application development (makes it easier if I need to wipe a system because I screw up installing shit which I tend to do often) , and general usage of a more powerful system than a 2014 no dGPU macbook pro.
Tl;dr - I want a server/system capable of running 1-3 OSX VMs when I need them. What part suggestions would you make and does this even seem reasonable.
