After all the problems with making a bootable USB drive, I cleared out a different USB drive and disabled USB 3.0 in the BIOS and it loaded.
So now I have Sierra loaded and running, but I can't get Xcode to download from the App Store and Chrome is crashing.
Chrome is doing the "aw snap! Reload" thing. It's a fresh download of Chrome.
Xcode 9 (the only reason to upgrade from Yosemite) is a 19 min download and fails at about 12 min in.
It gives no reason, and I've tried 3 times every time I get the same results.
I've turned off all the screen saver and sleep, although the sleep/recover did work. I tried with me being here the whole time and it still fails.
