Hackintosh doesn’t get past clover boot - verbose mode is blank screen followed by plus signs

First some details:

BIOS: ASRock Z68 extreme CPU: Intel Core i5-2500k CPU 3.3 GHz GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series

What I did: used a virtual machine to boot Yosemite, used that together with UniBeast to create a USB boot of macOS High Sierra (legacy boot).

Booted into clover. Booted with verbose (-v) and nv_disable =1 by default, also tried turning off nv_disable = 1 and keeping everything else off too (except verbose). I also tried safe mode. All result in the same issue: a blank screen for about a minute, followed by several plus signs and then a reboot.

When i check Kext Inject Management, I have the following Kexts in Other: NullCPUPowerManagement, USBInjectAll, RealtekRTK8111, IntelMausiEthernet, FakeSMC, AtherosE2200Ethernet

All other kext folders are empty.

I tried moving my ram sticks so they are both closest to my cpu (i have 2x 4gb sticks out of four available slots).

I tried replacing VBoxHfs-64.efi file with HFSPlus.efi

Any idea what could be causing this? Much appreciated.
