My specs are as follows:
- i7 7700K
- GTX 1080ti.
- Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD3
- Crucial MX300 SSDs
Problem: I plug in a totally working USB storage device (external disk) with a valid filesystem (ExFAT or HFS+) and nothing happens. Nothing gets mounted, and system profiler under "USB" does not see that a disk has been plugged in. "Diskutil list" doesn't see the external drives (but it does notice my Windows drive). My 4-Bay external drive dock doesn't show up, my USB3 WD Passport drive doesn't show up, my Kingston USB sticks don't show up.
- The external disks work on my non-Hackintosh machine;
- The external disks that are exFAT work on the same computer when booted into my Windows 10 partition.
- The cables are fine;
- The same USB ports all recognize other devices (Oculus Rift, Spyder 4 Monitor Calibrator, XBOX controller dongle, Logitech USB dongle)
- I've plugged it in directly to the computer without any hub device in the way (still not recognized);
- I've also tried going through the USB hub in hopes that might work, which doesn't.
What could I be doing wrong here? I've verified the disks, the cables, the ports, everything checks out except the operating system. It sees other USB devices, but not external storage whatsoever.
While I did make redundant backups with Time Machine and Carbon Copy Cloner before I did the update (which then proceeded to kext panic for a while), because my machine can't see the drives I can't revert to a previous working install.
Additionally, my sound doesn't output when routed through to my monitor speakers.
I've been trying to fix this for the last week and it's been mounting as more and more frustrating. I'm tempted to just wipe it all and install Sierra, or to switch my Lightroom catalogue over to my Windows side.
