Can i use an old iMac 27" from 2009-10 as the monitor for a Hackintosh?

I don't have another monitor and i'm on a budget.

Here's the catch, the video card on the old iMac is glitchy and has pretty much crapped out. Would that be an issue? Or would the imac draw it's videocard-ness from the Hackintosh? (i'm a noob, forgive me)
