How much maintenance is generally required to keep a Hackintosh up to date and functioning properly within the Apple ecosystem (iMessage, syncing, etc. all working and upgrading the OS as Apple moves forward)?
I'd like to build a machine that dual boots Windows and OS X. I am currently invested in the Apple ecosystem with my iPhone and iPad in addition to a 2017 MacBook Pro (that I am going to sell because it is way too fragile and has had so many problems for a machine that costs more than my car).
My fear with building a Hackintosh is that I will spend lots of time trying to keep it functioning properly and may quickly find myself with a hardware configuration that will no longer work with OS X.
