Hey!
Yesterday I got the urge to try to make my PC into a hackintosh. I went out to the store and got myself a new Samsung 860 500GB SSD, and a 16GB USB stick.
Rest of the system is this:
Mobo: ASRock Z87 Extreme4 Processor: i7-4790k RAM: 2x8 + 2x4 GB DDR3 2033 Graphics: Nvidia 1070 Ti 8GB
Now, I've done a Vanilla install with clover (config is in next post), and most stuff is working. Audio, Ethernet (I'm writing this from the Hackintosh), etc.
However, graphics are not working. This is what I've done so far:
-
When I installed High Sierra, I got the 10.13.6 17G66 version. I could find official drivers for 17G66, only 17G65.
-
I found this link (https://github.com/Benjamin-Dobell/nvidia-update) which let me install drivers through the terminal, even though my version was wrong. So I have web drivers installed. About this Mac says: "Display 3 MB"
-
I didn't help, so I found another post (https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/no-nvidia-driver-for-high-sierra-17g66.271058/) telling me that I could change in the register (?) to spoof my version number. I did that (so now it says 17G65 in System Report). And could install the web drivers, however still not working. About this Mac says: "Display 3 MB"
-
Now I have the web drivers and I've installed Cuda. Still doesn't work, and about this Mac says: "Display 3 MB".
-
I can't change the resolution, I get screen tearing and Acceleration doesn't work. It obviously can't use (utilise) the card.
-
Now, I installed with SMBIOS as 15,1, however now I've changed it to 14,2 as per tips on the internet. It doesn't help, but do I need to install High Sierra with 14,2? Also, I suppose this SMBIOS number is for different releases of the different Macs, how do I know which one I should use?
Finally, I'm just asking for general tips, anything will do. I feel like I'm closing in on the finishing line after sitting with this the entire day yesterday.
Thanks, Christian
