I'm trying to follow the AMD Vanilla Guide, but, of course, like so many other Hackintosh guides, it's written as a list of things to do with no explanation about what we're actually doing and why.
It doesn't say that Windows 10 is needed, so of course I loaded everything up on a Windows 7 VM before being told that it's not new enough.
I downloaded a Windows 10 VM that Microsoft makes available for free for testing Edge, and while it's horribly, painfully slow on a 2008 Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro, I've gotten the prerequisites loaded and installed. I then download High Sierra Recovery, and at least the download part works.
Now I'm trying to run MakeInstall.bat. However, the script doesn't see any drives if those drives are formatted as NTFS. So I delete the partition from my installer drive, and the script sees it. I then try to follow exactly what the directions say (just select drive, no additional options), and I get:
Extracting boot6 from Clover-v2.4k-4980-X64.iso... No partitions located on disk! Press [enter] to return...
Stuff like this is infuriating because the documentation doesn't say whether special things need to be done. It doesn't say that partitioning may need to be done manually, or undone, or anything. "Just do these things" is only OK if those things work without issues, but clearly they don't.
I'd really rather have instructions which explain what's going on. For instance, is this whole process just creating installation media (which is easy to do, particularly on a real Mac), then installing Clover? If so, then where can I find the specific options used for the Clover install?
I plan to document the whole process when I'm done, but without all the ambiguity. If anyone has any sources of good documentation, it'd be appreciated. Thanks!
