After 3 grueling days of trial and error, I was finally able to boot my PC into High Sierra.
Here is my PC with macOS: https://imgur.com/qSDFSVI
Hardware list:
- Asus ROG Strix B360-F GAMING Motherboard
- Intel Core i5-8400
- Asus ROG Strix 1070 OC Edition
- Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5' Internal Hard Disk Drive (7200 RPM)
- Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2666MHz
What works:
- iMessage
- Sound
- Graphics
- Ethernet (no wifi card)
- USB connections
- All six cores/threads
i had windows installed on an NVMe SSD, and I didn't want to waste precious SSD storage, so instead I partitioned my 2TB HDD so that I could create a partition where I would install macOS. This itself created a few problems, as attempting to format the disk so that the macOS installer could use it would usually result in error messages. I was able to circumvent the issue ("MediaKit reports not enough space on device for requested operation") by created an EFI partition along with it. I used this guide to do so: (https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-solving-media-kit-reports-not-enough-space-on-device-for-requested-operation-error.168286/)
The process I used to install:
- Used multiple guides (some parts didn't work for me so I had to kind of mix and match and work it out): https://hackintosher.com/guides/high-sierra-install-full-guide/ and https://hackintosh.gitbook.io/-r-hackintosh-vanilla-desktop-guide/
- Download Clover Configurator and Clover Bootloader (https://mackie100projects.altervista.org/download-clover-configurator/ ; https://github.com/Dids/clover-builder/releases)
- Create a bootable USB using Unibeast (https://www.tonymacx86.com/resources/unibeast-8-3-2-high-sierra.383/)
- Download .kext files using Vanilla tutorial (https://hackintosh.gitbook.io/-r-hackintosh-vanilla-desktop-guide/)
- Edit your config.plist file according to (https://hackintosh.gitbook.io/-r-hackintosh-vanilla-desktop-guide/). Make sure that you have nv_disable=1 and verbose mode (put "-v" in Boot section of Clover Configurator of the config.plist) if you dont want to encounter graphics issues and make troubleshooting easier (this was a huge problem for me, verbose allowed me to easily search error codes and fix the issues)
- The list of troubleshooting things that I had to go through is insane, so I will not be adding it here. However, if you encounter an error, a simple google and looking at the first 3-4 results gave me all the answers I needed
- After you are able to boot into macOS, install the Nvidia WebKit drivers using this: (https://github.com/Benjamin-Dobell/nvidia-update)
- Pray to god that you are able to make it through :)
I read online that making a bootable USB using Unibeast is a bit of an issue, but when I used the Vanilla methods, it simply didn't work for me. I wish everyone good luck and this marks the end of my Hackintosh experience, as I don't think I have to mental strength to do it again. Please ask me any questions in the comments if you have more questons.
