Hey all,
Like it has for many, the idea of an AMD Hackintosh has piqued my interest. I'm due for a build upgrade sometime in the next year or two and I'm very tempted to center it around a Ryzen 3950X (or whatever the current-gen equivalent at that point is). That chip is an absolute monster and a hackintosh with it would put any machine I've personally owned to shame.
Something that is bugging me, though, is that I've read conflicting information on AMD power management. I know for certain that macOS itself has no support for it, but I've read from some that this means that there is zero management, with the CPU running full blast at all times and from others that wall power meters (Kill-a-Watt, etc) show power consumption ramping with CPU load (indicating that there's some level of management, if crude).
So what's the full story here? Also, is fine-grade or even coarse power management in the realm of possibility for the community to write kexts for or is it pretty much something only Apple could write?
