Original Post here. In the end it was simple, just not very well documented for a total amateur. Issues were far and few but very frustrating nonetheless. I also got lucky and was able to reference here since same mobo. If OC is truly better than Clover, than I'd say it's child's play to configure it.
FaceTime, Messages, Wake/Sleep/Screensaver is fine. App Store (iMovie, etc) was a success. Adobe CC works. RAID1 (2 x 500GB SATA SSD) configured as "DATA"/storage/backups/memories drive, NVMe is the boot/OS/apps/current projects drive. I even updated Safari and Mojave 10.14.6 with a Security Patch just now, w00t!
Must admit, if you have even a little bit of knowledge of how Hackintosh's work, the OC Vanilla Guide is really well documented!
Better tutorial coming soon, but here's the jist of it:
- Assembling Node 202 ITX was harder than OC setup /FML
- I also installed Windows on the SSD prior to everything to ensure all the HW was working/recognized. Supposedly, the OC tools are better on Windows too? Meh. ProperTree is the best tool bar none, seriously! (I tried a couple afterwards on OSX for small tinkering and wanted to punch the neighbour's cat)
- SnazzyLab recent video was a great motivator but quickly fell apart. Most of the information was missing imo but he didn't claim it as a tutorial
- I had to use Clover Configurator at the very end to mount the NVMe EFI so I could transfer the OC EFI from USB (this took two hours to realize!)
- [No onboard] audio took an hour to resolve; FYI future me: gfxutil, IORegistryExplorer
- Fan/Temps for CPU wouldn't populate until SMCProcessor and SMCSuperIO kext were populated. These are also necessary since I am using VirtualSMC, instead of FakeSMC. AFAIK, GPU temp/fan read/setting is not supported by OSX.
- I had to really put the Sapphire RX570 through its paces (playing 8K YT vids) for the fans to start spinning; spent an hour thinking there's something wrong with the SW. I suppose my basement is very chilly, lol!
- Decreased OC 'Timeout' in config.plist to 1 second so it now takes 25 seconds from physically turning on the machine to launching Safari.
- Mobo has two Ethernet; one doesn't work - totally ignoring this.
- DO NOT copy someone else's config.plist, unless 1) you know exactly what you're doing 2) they have the exact same HW down to the resistor
What doesn't work right now (agenda for tomorrow):
- Wifi and BT - the Fenvi M.2e is still being shipped, but the Azure Broadcom arrived today
- USB limit - I have 8 ports (2xUSB2, 6xUSB3). Three are not working. I fail to understand why, but I know the next step is to compile my own map using USBMap.command
And lastly, thank you to r/hackintosh - from everyone who asked the questions that I eventually needed answers to, and to the folks who answered them.
