If anyone is having the black screen with this combo after waking from sleep the solution might be as simple as switching from HDMI to DisplayPort.
I followed the guides carefully and got everything to work on my setup including handoff, airdrop, and iMessage. The one issue I had was a black screen on wake. So I would shutdown every time I was finished using it.
Today by pure curiosity I decided to switch from the hdmi port to display port to see if that would fix my weird scaling issue with the opencore boot canopy. Not only did it fix that issue. It fixed my wake on sleep issue where it would go to a black screen.
Anyway, I hope this helps anyone who has been facing this issue and have spent weeks like me updating files in my EFI and config.plist only to have it still not work!!
