I was assigned an early 2015 i7 MBP a couple of years ago at work but lately I was feeling this computer was not cutting it. I had bought this BRIX with fewer ram and a cheap SSD as transcoding/homelab server, but never actually went all the way in, so it was basically a pihole/smb server. Decided to buy a raspberry pi for those purposes and also bought better RAM and a NVMe SSD. Upgraded my BRIX and just went for it for my first hackintosh build. So, I followed the dortania open core 0.5.9 laptop guide for kaby lake carefully and managed to do a successful first boot. Afterwards had to properly choose my SMBIOS, and card id for this type of processor. Wifi/airdrop/bluetooth worked without issues and without kexts since this is a broadcom card. I don't plan on using iMessage or Facetime so couldn't bother on getting a valid serial. For the USB fix took me like 3 tries to get it working and as I was trying to understand fully what I was doing. At the end of the day got my usbs 3.0 ports to work at full speed without any issues. This BRIX has also a front panel with 1 3.1 and a Type-C port on a small asmedia board. Since I am running the XhciPortLimit Quirk they are working but haven't tested speed on them. I've been using this hackintosh for 2 weeks already as my main system. No issues whatsoever. I know both processor performance-wise are very similar but I must say using my hackintosh feels faster and more stable. I can't thank enough the acidanthera team. I was very hesitant to do this with Clover since I read a lot of compatibility/stability issues., but with OpenCore the system feels like an apple computer. [link] [comments] |
