My first ever Hackintosh, after wanting to make one since high school! [OpenCore]

Successfully installing 10.13.6 High Sierra!

Hey guys, finally able to post about success after asking probably some of the dumbest questions. I first tried with Clover and was stuck on the boot screen and couldn’t get around it, so I took the advice of trying OpenCore.. and to my surprise, it worked out after some tweaking. All in all, I was working on it for probably two days, maybe 10 hours time at the longest.

Unfortunately I had my own extra problems because of my specs, and I didn’t buy any extra hardware to make this work. I just went out on a whim to try it the other day, with my current hardware, and I made it work. At the time of writing this post though, I have just ordered a new NIC because the one built into my board isn’t compatible, so I don’t have wifi unless I tether my phone.

Went with the Fenvi T919 completely funded by credit card rewards points, so TECHNICALLY I still haven’t spent anything on this setup. ;))

I’m still trying to figure out the display problem, because there’s tons of screen tearing and my graphics say “Display 22mb” instead of my GTX 1080 8gb. I’m assuming it has to do with drivers, but my 10.13.6 High Sierra is version 17G66 so I can’t find the proper web drivers. (If anyone has any input lmk).

Here are my specs: CPU: i7 8086k @ 5.0ghz Coffee Lake MOBO: Asus Z370-E Gaming RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V CL14 32gb 3000mhz GPU: Asus ROG STRIX GTX 1080 COOLER: NZXT Kraken x52 STORAGE: Samsung 860 Evo 1TB SATA (I know, not the best and I might run into issues, but I’m happy it at least works. Might invest in a PCI-e WD_BLACK if I like even having a Hackintosh) ETHERNET: Intel WIFI: Realtek (incompatible)

Just want to point out that this is a dual boot setup with Windows, each having their own 1TB Samsung SSD. Due to this, my Hackintosh specs might not be “up to par” with the most recommended stuff. However, this will mostly just be a productivity setup (I prefer Mac for productivity, Windows for gaming/office) so as long as it’s functional and not completely broken I’m happy. I had to change a few things in my Bios that I really didn’t want to, so I might try and revert a few things and see what happens. One of those is secure boot, I really like that because I know it’s a huge plus for security. I also disabled RAID for AHCI, and I’m not sure what that’ll affect (since I don’t have a true RAID setup) but I guess we’ll see.

Thanks to the few people who reached out on my dumb posts, you helped more than you know. I’m glad to be a part of the Hackintosh community.
