What works

Everything that worked previously on Big Sur and Monterey work on Ventura as well.

  • Audio
  • GPU
  • Ethernet
  • USB

What's broken

  • Nothing

Performance

  • In benchmarking and initial use, there's no performance hit or benefits

How I got it working

  • Get the latest kexts and OpenCore from here.

  • Create a new FAT32/FAT16 partition on any of your disks (USB preferably). It's fine if you can create a partition on your hard drive itself.

  • Mount your current installation's ESP and copy over the EFI directory to the new partition you made.

  • Update OpenCore and kexts on the new partition. If you're using 0.8.1, you only need to update OpenCore files and kexts, but if you're on 0.8.0 or lower, you need to change a few entries.

  • If you previous changed things on your config.plist to get macOS 13 beta working, especially AvoidRuntimeDefrag, revert those changes.

  • Get macOS beta image using installinstallmacos.py. Pass the arguments (--seedprogram DeveloperSeed) to list dev beta images.

  • Create install media on a partition. I created the install media on an SSD partition because it's faster (traditionally, this is done on a USB stick but it's a waste of time).

  • It's better to clone your existing installation and apply the update on top of the clone, rather than installing beta software on your main installation. If you're fresh-installing on a new partition, it doesn't matter. I've tried both ways and it works.

  • The OpenCore 0.8.2 EFI is capable of booting all my installations, including my main Big Sur installation. Still, I say wait a bit before moving the EFI to your main ESP and using it as the main EFI.
