If I’m running Ventura under OCLP, can I just upgrade to Sonoma using system update, then patch?

I have a late 2014 McBook Pro and iMac 2012 both running Ventura. I’ve tried to look for the answer but read that some have done this successfully. I’d rather avoid the USB installer if it’s safe to go this route.
