(WIP) Behold the first GDDR6 XSX/PS5-based AMD Hackintosh

After a few days, I’ve successfully managed to boot into my Cardinal-based system. Everything works almost fine: USB 3.2, audio, sleep.

Specs:

​

• Ryzen 4700S Desktop Kit • 16GB GDDR6 (256-bit bus, providing about the same bandwidth as the M1 Pro) • GTX Titan (Big Sur) • HD 7970 (Monterey) • 1TB SATA SSD

Specifically, the Ethernet controller on this board is the Asix AX88179. Drivers are easier to find, but I’ve tried every version from 1.2 to 2.4, and none of them worked.

Chipset: AMD A77e Fusion. I didn’t find much information, but it’s the same used on thin clients with AMD RX CPUs.

​

I’ve modded the BIOS to enable above 4G decoding and enable xHCI handoff.

​

This success showcases how versatile OpenCore can be. My next step will be getting it to boot from an RTL9210-based NVMe enclosure and upgrading the GPU to RX 6600 XT.

• Good for SFF builds • Nice RAM speed • 4x USB 3.2 10Gb/s ports

Cons:

​

• Lack of expansion options • Single 2.0 x4 PCI slot only • 145ns RAM latency (M1: \~100ns) • Hard to find • Uncommon CPU fan mount
