So what’s the deal with Hackintoshes these days? (Methodology, what’s changed over the years, benefits compared to back in the day, etc)

  • Back in my day, we used an iBoot DVD to boot into the Snow Leopard install DVD!
  • Then I remember Clover and Chimera being a thing, which was a great improvement, but obviously still very ‘hacky.’
  • Then I remember the emergence of the ‘vanilla’ method, and OpenCore after that.
  • That seemed like the endgame of the Hackintosh, then I kept seeing things about bare metal VMs being the way to go - which seems super cool.

So what’s going on - what are most people doing these days and why?
