Direction on how to have nice graphical bootloader interface

Anyone have any suggestions on what I need to press or select to perform an nvram reset? I must have fouled up on the USB drive creation because I do not have a pretty graphical bootloader screen and eventually it times out and tries installing mac os Yosemite without me having performed an nvram reset. Should I choose the nvram reset option via mouse or is their a text means? Because I don't seem to get any movement switching between install mac os and the second option reset nvram. I'm attempting a hacintosh on a Dell precision t5610 with ivy bridge and 20+ hours building my efi folder only to be stopped like this. any suggestions would be welcomed :)
