macmini7,1 updated from 1.3.0 to 1.4.2 and now won't boot

I've been running 1.3.0 with Ventura for a while now on my macmini7,1. This morning, the OCLP asked to update to 1.4.2, and without giving it much thought, I accepted.

Now it is looping reboots and won't boot into MacOS at all... "Your computer restarted because of a problem..."

The system was perfectly stable before the update, so I guess I should blame myself because "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"... but I'm going to have a hard time trusting updates if they just brick the system.
