Right now I'm running Sequioa on this thing and oh man, the performance is sooooo much better than Ventura (last supported OS)
BUT here is what is going on w/ my setup, and I'm just not sure exactly what is wrong:
- once I run the patch updates, before I reboot I unplug my usb loader and restart, hold option on startup
- this gives me the EFI Boot with black box, seems correct
- When I click on it - i should expect to then click my main Mac HD to boot from, but I get the "Prohibited" symbol screen (support.apple.com/mac/startup) url at bottom
- other times this screen will be blank - i can't quite pinpoint yet when to expect the prohibited symbol vs this blank screen
- and so i just plug in my usb boot drive, at the boot screen I click EFI Boot, then the next screen i see I"m able to select my Mac drive
And so, I think Sequoia is in fact installed on my laptop, however its only accessible with the USB drive plugged in - any clue what the issue is?
Basically once I'm logged in OCLP will prompt me with the, "it's loading from USB do you want to install from disk?" - I've done the install, run the patches and rebooted sooo many times.
After some research it seems like my "EFI" is not configured correctly, so my laptop can't quite bootstrap the OS for me to use w/o the USB stick, or could the EFI be corrupt? I've downloaded and began looking to how to get the correct EFI, seems like Configurator and something else needs to be matching version - haven't quite wrapped my head around this yet - and not sure how i'd update those configs once i've edited them. Any guidance is appreciated!
Overall this laptop is performing like a completely different machine, I still can't believe it, and I dont' even have it set up correctly. The fan used to go buckwild just logging in, and I'm a good 20 min in and hasn't made a sound. I am in fact going to give the CPU a re-paste, which i think it deserves OCLP or not.
